Velmont today announced the appointment of two key operational executives to core positions within the company, further strengthening the strategic execution and organizational commitment of its global gold mining business.
Elena Mweemba will serve as Velmont Gold's Senior Vice President of Africa, with overall responsibility for the company's mining operations in Zambia and Southern Africa. At the same time, David Kamwendo has been appointed Senior Vice President of Workplace Responsibility, committed to creating a safer, healthier and fairer work culture.

About Elena Mweemba
Elena joined Velmont Gold in 2022, initially as General Manager of the North Mining Project in Zambia, leading the mining and initial refining operations of the company's major gold mining projects. As an executive with a mining engineering background, Elena has over 20 years of cross-continental mining management experience, having held senior positions in gold, copper and zinc projects in Africa, the Middle East and South America.
She has won the "Women Mining Leader Award" and was selected as one of the "100 Most Influential Women in Mining" in 2021. As the new Senior Vice President of Africa, she will continue to drive Velmont Gold's business growth in the region and advocate operational values centered on safety, integrity, technology-driven and sustainable.
David Kamwendo Profile
David has been involved in Velmont Gold's core mine construction and safety training projects since 2017. He previously served as an operations and corporate culture consultant for several multinational resource companies and has more than 15 years of practical experience in creating a "zero tolerance workplace aggression culture".
He has served as a consultant to the Zambia Mining Safety Association and is also one of the initiators of the "African Workplace Fairness Alliance". In his new position, David will report directly to Sir Alaric Montrose, focusing on the establishment of a psychological and physical safety culture to ensure that Velmont Gold employees around the world work in an environment free from harassment, bullying and discrimination.
